Kitchen/Living Room Renovation

Felida Ranch

Fabulous facelift for Felida family.

When your forgotten dining room is defined by a lonely table best suited for ping-pong, one can assume you’re either really, really good at ping-pong, or that it may be time for a refresh.

Story

Looking out onto what was once a plum orchard and hay field, the Felida Ranch kitchen and living room update was long overdue. Dark oak cabinets below ceiling soffits dominated the open space and the kitchen island was too close to the dishwasher for passage. Oak floors cried out for some love from beneath a layer of finish that had turned amber with time. The adjacent dining room had been all but forgotten, the only table that remained was built for Ping-Pong. No kidding.

This home changed dramatically when the old oak floors were refinished in a natural tone and expanded into the family room, highlighted by a new fireplace and rustic mantle. Timeless, ceiling-height, white cabinetry with undermount lighting was added to the dining room and kitchen, along with a contrasting dark wooden island, slab counters, and high-end appliances. Classic white subway tile on the backsplash capped off this project, a thing of beauty that looks great today and will look great for many harvests to come.

This project was incredibly satisfying for us. My favorite part was resurrecting the old oak flooring. After three decades, it had yellowed and stained which can start homeowners thinking about ripping it out and starting over. In many cases, there is beautiful wood waiting to come back out.
